US Lawmaker Blames Israel for Death of Palestinian-American in West Bank

(MENAFN) US Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib accused the Israeli government on Monday of being responsible for the death of a Palestinian-American in the occupied West Bank.

"The Israeli apartheid regime and its settler gangs have murdered yet another U.S. citizen in the West Bank, and our government does absolutely nothing," Tlaib wrote on the US social media company X.

The victim, Nasrallah Abu Siyam, a 19-year-old Palestinian-American from Philadelphia, was shot and beaten by Israeli settlers in the village of Mukhmas last Wednesday and later died at a hospital in Ramallah. Witnesses said around 50 illegal settlers raided the village to steal livestock, and Abu Siyam was shot while defending a local farmer’s sheep before being beaten.

"Justice for Nasrallah Abu Siyam. Killings like this will keep happening until we stop funding genocide and apartheid," Tlaib added.

Reports note that Israel has increased operations in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since its military campaign in Gaza began on Oct. 8, 2023. Palestinians say these actions—including killings, arrests, displacement, and settlement expansion—advance the formal annexation of the territory.

In a July 2024 ruling, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s occupation of Palestinian lands illegal and called for the removal of settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, as stated by reports.
