Tensions rise as Israeli forces raid areas around Qalandiya refugee camp
The forces entered al-Kuds Road near the camp, stationed themselves along Institute Street, and advanced toward Airport Road, increasing their presence in the area. The governorate noted that sections of the separation barrier at the end of Airport Road were removed as dozens of military vehicles gathered near the site of the former Jerusalem International Airport.
The raid occurred during the peak morning school commute, causing tension and disruption as heavy military vehicles moved through the area and several main and secondary roads were blocked. Additional reinforcements were sent toward the airport vicinity, prompting local authorities to announce school closures due to the roadblocks and severe disruptions to civilian and vehicle movement.
Regions north of Jerusalem, particularly near Qalandiya, have repeatedly experienced Israeli raids, which include road closures and searches, directly affecting Palestinians’ daily routines, including students and workers.
Since the outbreak of war in Gaza in October 2023, Israel has stepped up military activity across the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, carrying out arrests, killings, home demolitions, and imposing restrictions on Palestinian movement, reports indicate.
