UN warns of worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza ahead of winter
Over the last several weeks, aid partners have distributed tens of thousands of essential winter items — such as clothing, blankets, towels and shoes — to children across Gaza.
"And during the last 10 days of November, 160 activity tents were distributed, enabling thousands of children to access mental health and psychosocial support activities and case management services," the UN spokesperson said.
On health matters, officials reported that a medical team facilitated the evacuation of 18 patients and 54 accompanying family members from Gaza so they could receive care abroad.
"WHO said that more than 16,500 patients still need life-saving care outside of the Gaza Strip.
"We continue to call for the opening of all available border crossings and corridors – including so that patients can seek treatment in the West Bank – and stress the need for unimpeded access for international emergency medical teams to enter Gaza," he said.
He added that “over the past 24 hours,” reports continued to indicate airstrikes, shelling and gunfire across all five governorates of Gaza.
Shifting to the West Bank, the spokesperson noted that the UN "remain concerned" about the effects of recent operations by Israeli forces in the northern areas of Tubas and Jenin. According to general accounts, these incidents have contributed to heightened insecurity, damage to water systems, and the shutdown of numerous businesses.
In just the last two days, nearly two dozen Palestinian families have reportedly been forced from their homes, which were subsequently converted into military observation posts, he added.
